Cracking the Code to SEO-friendly Content

  • Written by Viw Magazine

Generating traffic through carefully crafted content can be just as effective as it can be tricky. Is there a secret formula? A perfect recipe for cooking up that one blog post that's going to make the organic traffic numbers go through the roof? The answer here is - unfortunately - not really. It's not as easy as generating a well-written, engaging piece of copy on a very interesting topic. It's not exactly journalism. Google, as the biggest platform in the business, sets the rules here. What are they? Nobody knows for sure, strictly speaking. That's also precisely the reason why there are specialised agencies out there offering expert SEO services. Although the elusive perfect content remains somewhat shrouded in mystery, there are certainly some guidelines we can follow to increase our chances of ranking high on Google exponentially.

Keyword Research is Key

Start by identifying relevant keywords for your content. Use tools like Google Keyword Planner or SEMrush (feel free to try out other tools) to discover what terms your audience is searching for. Try your best to include these keywords naturally in your content, headings, subheadings and meta descriptions.

Relevant Content

It's quite simple - at least in theory - Google values content that provides value to users. That's why it's so important to create informative, engaging, and relevant content that addresses the needs of your target audience. Aim for in-depth articles that thoroughly cover a topic, demonstrating your expertise. AI-generated content is not your end goal, especially considering glaringly obvious shortcomings when it comes to crafting long-form content. Sure, it can be helpful, but human touch and fact-checking are still required here.

Don't Overdo It

Let's be honest - Google knows exactly what you're doing. One post to target 10 keywords at once? One keyword featured 30 times across a single article? There's no added benefit coming from practices like that - it's actually quite the opposite. Keyword stuffing - since that's the proper name - is frowned upon, penalized and completely ineffective. Those days are long gone. Adjust the keyword placement frequency to the overall length of your written content and use it wisely. Otherwise, it's nothing more than just a missed opportunity.

Meta Descriptions

Craft compelling meta descriptions that include your target keywords. But be careful - the same rule regarding keyword stuffing applies here as well. These are the first things users see on the search results page, so do your best to make them attention-grabbing and - reflective of your content.

Mobile Optimization

With the majority of searches happening on mobile devices, ensure your website is mobile-friendly. Google prioritizes mobile-responsive websites, and a positive mobile experience contributes to higher rankings.

Improve Page Loading Speed

Again, we're coming back to the idea of user experience. Both users and search engines prefer fast-loading pages. Optimize images, leverage browser caching, and use a content delivery network (CDN) to enhance your website's loading speed.

Build High-Quality Backlinks

Acquire backlinks from reputable websites in your industry. Think of them as votes of confidence in your content and website credibility. Much like in many other spheres, quality matters more than quantity when it comes to backlinks.

Internal Linking

Link relevant pages within your website to each other. This not only enhances the user experience but also helps search engines understand the structure of your content and the relationships between different pages.

Regularly Update Content

There's one more thing that Google loves, and it's fresh content. Regularly update and refresh your existing content to reflect the latest information in your industry. This shows Google that your website is actively maintained and improved. A good example of that is sticking to a strong and regular publishing schedule.

Not a Race

Anything related to organic traffic takes time - it's not like a PPC campaign, often run by a Google Ads agency, which normally brings about quick short-term changes when done right. With SEO, you might have to wait for any results for months. But it's well worth the time and effort. Bear in mind that optimizing your content for Google requires a holistic approach that combines quality content creation, technical optimization, and ongoing analysis. Implementing these tips might get you on the fast track to climbing the Google rankings and driving more organic traffic to your website.
