Polyethylene pipes: why you need them for your application

  • Written by Viw Magazine

Polyethylene pipes, or “poly” pipes, is a cost-effective and highly-efficient solution for myriad applications in fluid transport. They are designed to transport drinking water and can be installed above or underground.

What makes this option so fantastic is its economical advantages combined with its efficiency. It is a much cheaper option than traditional materials like iron or steel and requires less work to install whilst having a longer lifespan!

What’s more, it carries massive advantages for transporting gas, including insensitivity to stray currents. This ensures that gas providers can avoid the use of expensive technologies.

There are so many benefits to using this material, and we are here to talk you through a few of them:

  1. Service economy

In public use, the service economy can be incredibly high compared to other pipeline materials. Industrial polyethylene pipes have incredibly smooth internal surfaces and have awesome flow rates even in tough conditions. The joints of parts of the network can be produced by fusion and therefore reduce dispersions.

It also contains precise dispersions attributing to a high volume of mechanical joints that determine such a rate of loss in gas pipelines and aqueducts!

  1. They are leak-free

As fusion is typically enlisted for jointing, you eliminate the need for regular gaskets. Every mechanical joint requires gaskets, and these gaskets can unfortunately generate dispersions as time goes on. When comparing these two jointing methods, welded joints are found to reduce dispersions by 10%, and don’t need support cement blocks to block the mechanical joints from becoming displaced.

  1. Corrosion-resistant

This awesome material is rust-resistant, and doesn’t allow cavity creation. Furthermore, it is not sensitive to stray currents and doesn’t produce bacteriological growth. They can also run immune through regions with strong chemical presence. They only need to be protected from permeation in areas where organic solvents are present.

  1. Fatigue resistant

Polyethylene pipes can be installed curving them and, consequently, reduce the need for special pieces. It has a low elastic modulus, which creates a much larger water hammer absorption capacity. They can be used with numerous water hammers with even double the operating pressure. They can do this without any harmful impact on the product’s service capacity.

  1. It is incredibly tough

The ductility, flexibility and stiffness of this material combined with the potential for welded joints makes them perfect for installation in dynamic soil that are prone to landslides and seismic risks.

  1. & incredibly durable

These networks are designed to have a massive service life of up to 50 years. To receive this fantastic result, or even longer, the system must be properly designed and installed alongside the best operating practices and rules created by relevant authorities.

  1. Temperature-resistant

Polyethylene pipes can operate in extreme temperatures. They have the ability to operate between -70 to 60 degrees Celsius, making them incredibly tough. The primary mechanical and physical capacities of this material remain unchanged even in such tough conditions. This makes it a fantastic option for utilising it as a raw material for creating press-bearing fluid pipelines.

As you can see, there are near-innumerable benefits to using this incredible technology for transporting fluids. It’s for these reasons that it is fast becoming the industry standard as opposed to more traditional materials like iron and steel.

If you are looking for a durable, tough material that is leak-free and reduces dispersions then this is perfect for your application. It can make all the difference for your installation needs!
