Gippsland by Offroad - Victoria's Hidden Gems

New to Gippsland and want to get to know her beauty better? Off-road caravans open up parts of this region, with its stunning landscape and pristine beaches, that those who stick to sealed roads simply can’t reach. If you’re keen to explore what this beautiful area has to offer, here are three recommended routes worth heading off the beaten track for.
Baw Baw National Park Road Trip – Easy to Medium
Just two hours from Melbourne is Baw Baw National Park, a great way to ease into off-road caravan travel on easy 4WD tracks. Start in the small township of Erica, the launchpad for some of the area’s best off-road caravan tracks. Take in the Great Dividing Range on an unsealed track, with panoramic views and scenic forest views along the way. 30km of raw, honest beauty, with the option of several off-road campsites in Baw Baw or nearby shared campgrounds on the South Face Road four-wheel drive track.
Wingan Mallacoota Four-Wheel Drive — Medium
Dial up the adventure and beauty while keeping it chill by taking the 82km track starting in Croajingolong National Park. Take it slow and travel the first 34km to Wingan Link Picnic Ground or try your luck fishing the Thurra and Mueller Rivers for salmon, tailor or perch. There’s plenty more to see as you travel a further 31 km to Shipwreck Creek Campground on Betka Track. Don’t miss the hike up to Genoa Peak to take in the magnificent view. Mallacoota is the final stop to soak up the last of the serenity.
Combienbar East Errinundra Four-Wheel Drive — Medium
Errinundra National Park kicks off this two-day, 111 km journey. From the Errinundra/Combienbar Rd Junction to the Princes Highway, you can take in the breathtaking beauty of Combienbar Valley and the low, lush Cann River. Slow down, light a campfire and share stories under the canopy, parked safely at Tennyson Campsite. Continue through Queensborough River, Errinundra Saddle to Mt Morris, and enjoy a 2km hike up to the granite outcrops.
Caravans in Melbourne have never been more popular, and routes like these are exactly why.
