There could be many agencies out there who promise to get you a good one, but a perfect one for your kid is hard to find. However, with care and connecting with the right people, it’s easy to get the right person who will make your baby happy.
When looking for the babysitter, there are things you must observe, and that is the focus of this article.
Get a good and quiet place for an interview.
You can’t have the babysitter begin work without having a meeting. You need to look for a calm and private place where you meet the babysitter and get to find out several things about her. Get a place where both of you would be comfortable. That could be in a coffee shop or another place with minimal interruptions.
Make sure there are no interruptions so that you can concentrate and get to understand the person who will be spending most of the time with your baby. A mistake many mothers do is to carry the baby with you when going to meet the babysitter; don’t- you may end up spending all the time shushing, nursing or running after the baby. That will steal your focus.
Get a little personal.
In as much as the prospect has their rights to information, you may need to get deeper in the questions you ask. You’ll want to know things like; does she smoke her availability, the payment rate and such. Besides, you also want to know how knowledgeable and experienced she is in dealing with babies. Has she done the job before and for how long? Does she have experience with things like chocking or other emergencies, and how did she handle it? Most importantly, what is her child discipline philosophy?
Do proper screening
You indeed trust the babysitting agency that connected you to the babysitter, but you have a responsibility also to ask around some pertinent issues. You may need to find out her work experience and get the contacts of the former employer. Why you’re doing that is to ensure you don’t get a pedophile for a baby sitter. You can also try Googling her name to find out more information. Her social media accounts could also be a great place to get lots of information. That’s where she interacts with her friends, and you’ll quickly understand them.
Give it a try
One of the best ways of getting a reliable person for babysitting is to allow her to interact with the baby in your presence. As you sit around the house and do some chores, let the babysitter interact with the baby as you keep your ear and eyes open. If you’re able, you can try it for days, a week or so. That will help you get to learn if there’s good chemistry between the two and how good the babysitter is with the babies and her problem-solving skills.
Choosing a babysitter is not a process you want to rush-nope. Take your time, talk to the babysitter, and get some time for her to interact with the baby as you keep an eye. Interact with the person first before you can trust her with the baby. That way, you’ll be comfortable even when you’re away from home.
