Three Things to Do with a Baby That Aren’t Parks or Shops

Your baby’s first year is a whirlwind of dirty nappies, sleepless nights, and a gummy grin that grows less gummy with time. When you spend every day trying to entertain a curious, energetic baby, it’s easy to run out of ideas for new and exciting activities. The park is perfect when the weather is lovely, and the shops are fine when it isn’t, but what else is there to do to get you and your little one out of the house?
Lots!
Nature Walk
We are surrounded by natural beauty, and when the park isn’t cutting it anymore, you can get out in nature for a big walk with your little one. You can add some age-appropriate educational titbits, too. Whether you identify a few insects and look them up when you get home or search for the two most similar leaves, nature walks can be as good for the mind as they can for the body.
Join a Baby Sensory Class
Baby and toddler sensory classes are a great way to get you out of the house! Not only are they an educational opportunity for your little one, but it’s also a great chance for you to get to know other parents with similarly aged children. People underestimate how much having children changes your life, and spending time with people who understand what your life has been like recently can be cathartic.
Baby sensory classes are for babies from newborns up to 15 months old, and provide a fun, organised environment for parent and baby to enjoy some one-on-one bonding without the distraction of siblings or home life. There are also mixed-age classes, which are ideal if you have more than one child under five. Every child participates at their level as everyone sings, dances, and plays instruments.
Visit the Museum
Australia has so much history, and our museums are begging to be explored! With so many to choose from, you never know what special interest you may inspire! Explore natural history, aviation, transport, music, science, and railway. Of course, it doesn’t have to be a museum. You can visit art galleries or any culturally significant site and make it age-appropriate for your little one.
You completely shape your little one’s experiences, and choosing educational outings that are fun is a great way to teach your children that learning is exciting. Plus, the extra one-on-one time won’t hurt.
