  • Wear the prescribed headband

Your surgeon will provide you with a headband that you will need to wear after your surgery. The headband ensures that your ears are protected and stay in place until your ears are completely healed. While your surgeon will provide you with specific guidelines on when and how often to wear this headband, it will be particularly important when you’re sleeping.

  • Keep your head propped up

You want to make sure that you’re not placing any pressure on your ears when sleeping, which is why it helps to prop your head up using pillows. Place the pillows at the back and sides of your head to keep yourself elevated and in a neutral position.

  • Sleep in a recliner if it’s possible

Not everyone is able to sleep comfortably in their beds after otoplasty surgery, which is why it’s recommended you sleep in a recliner if you can. Because there isn’t much room for you to toss and turn in a recliner, it helps protect your ears.

  • Snooze on your back

For several days after your otoplasty procedure, you will need to sleep on your back. Sleeping on your side will not only be uncomfortable but it can affect the results of your surgery.

  • A travel neck pillow can really come in handy too

A travel pillow is perfect for otoplasty recovery. The U-shaped pillow fits comfortably around your neck and keeps your head perfectly stable while you doze. If you don’t have one at home, you may want to consider getting one to aid you during your recovery.
