Tacloban is a modern, urbanized city of Philippines, and also a regional part for the province of Eastern Visayas. As per the 2015 census, the population of this city is around 242,089, making it one of thecrowded city in the region of Eastern Visayas. From 20 October 1944 to 27 February 1945, this city served as the Philippines' capital, ruled by Commonwealth Government. This city was devastated by one of the worst natural disasters in the history of the Philippines; in 2013, the typhoon Yolanda ripped this city apart. But the city showing enormous strength and unity rebuild it to its glory.

The historical monuments have been restored, many new bars, restaurants, and shopping malls have been erected, and a sense of community has been established. The city has become more open and friendly to tourists after the recent makeover. Tacloban was mostly considered as the gateway to the island of Leyte and Samar, but now it is certainly worth to spend some nights in cheap hotels in Tacloban, to learn about the rich culture and heritage of this Philippine city.

Things to explore in Tacloban

There are many cheap hotels in Tacloban, which provides excellent round the clock desk, and room service. Parking in these hotels is free, and so is the Wi-Fi service. The bathrooms are spacious and clean, and the mirrored wall makes the room look more spacious.

Kanhuraw Hill

You can visit Kanhuraw Hill in a lazy afternoon; the place is situated near Kankabato Bay. This public place is lush green, planted with shady trees, and a picnic spot for residents and tourists. This place is located at the very center f the city, and it attracts various citizens from every walk of life. During Christmas, the local authority decorates this place with bright, tall Christmas trees.

You can also visit the statue of Madonna of Japan, which symbolizes the friendship between Japan and the Philippines. After 33 years of World War II, it was gifted by the government of Japan. The figurine is a masterpiece and looks like a female Buddha. You can spend some time in the park, and try to know the intricate history of this town.

You can visit Red beach, a vast open area, and from where you have a grand view of Samar Island. On the beach, you will find statues of war heroes who fought for their country. 

The San Juanico Bridge

The Bridge is a part of Pan-Philippine highway, which begins from Samar and ends to Leyte. This is known to be the longest over water bodies in beauty of the Philippines. The bridge construction was started in the year 1969 and finished in 1973. From here, you have a grand sight of San Juannic strait and its whirlpools.
