25 minute walk could add 7 years to life

  • Written by News Feature

The Daily Telegraph is reporting that exercising for 25 minutes every day can have a profound effect on preventing early onset heart disease.

"Just 25 minutes of brisk walking a day could add to seven years to your life, heart experts have said.

Researchers said moderate exercise could halve the risk of heart attack death among those in their fifties and sixties.

The new research, presented on Sunday at the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) congress suggests that regular exercise can delay the ageing process."

National Heart Foundation CEO, Mary Barry said today

“This latest research out of Europe highlights potentially profound health benefits from moderate but regular physical activity.”

“Aside from reducing the risk of heart disease, the study has found that regular exercise can trigger an anti-ageing process within the body.”

“While no cure-all, it is yet more evidence of how we can change our lives for the better when we make an effort to move more and sit less.”

“It’s not about running marathons or sweating it out in a gym, rather it’s the small steps you can take each day to be more physically active, that will be of most benefit.”

“Practical initiatives to encourage Australians to move more and sit less must be central to the development of a comprehensive, funded National Physical Activity Action Plan.”

“Key to achieving this will be the National Heart Foundation’s upcoming Physical Activity Consensus Forum at Parliament House, Canberra on Friday, 11 September.”

“Bringing together renowned local and international physical activity experts and policy advocates as well as representatives from government and the public health sector, the forum aims to determine a pathway to a healthier, more active Australia.”
